Elliot's Song

This is the ending that stops the kids crying
This is us clinging onto our ties
This is us forcing a moral to the story
This is the perfect time to theorise

A thousand miles away on an island
Singing Elliot’s song by the fireplace
Let it go, let it go to waste

This is a question I could not answer
This is us wondering what could have been
This is an era of endings getting nearer
This is a series I’m narrating

A thousand miles away on an island
Singing Elliot’s song by the fireplace
Let it go, let it go to waste
A thousand nights and days in a dream
Trying to synchronise two movie screens
Let it go, let it go, please let me in

So this is me watching Elliot on the TV
And this is me starting to realise
This is me losing my place in reality
This is me desperate to apologise

A thousand miles away on an island
Singing Elliot’s song by the fireplace
Let it go, let it go to waste
A thousand nights and days in a dream
Trying to synchronise two movie screens
Let it go, let it go, please let me sleep

This was the gesture I couldn’t think of
This was my island and she was the sea
This was me waiting for Elliot to forgive me
Because this is not how Elliot’s song should be
