Despite all the charity this is a desolate place
Where dust and ash seep from the taps
And it mourns for its sense of self
And its sense in general
This suburb fell victim to a chemical spillage
Now it just murmurs from amongst its own rubble
Its poisoned bubble, just poised to give up the struggle
But this city is a light, a beacon
This city is alive and beating
All the scattered, smiling breathing
Cuz this city is alive
Out in the villages her stone walls are worn away
By acid rain, piece by piece they're ground down
And trampled back into life's cycle
This town was kicked and beaten
This town was bruised and bleeding
This town was a shadow, a shadow of Eden
Watch her stumble
Watch her turn
Watch her blurry-eyed attempts to learn
Now this city is a light, a beacon
This city is alive and beating
All the scattered, smiling breathing
Cuz this city is alive
